Marie-Chantal NiwenshutiMiss Rwanda 2018

Rwanda is a relatively stable East African country, and easily accessible from Kenya and Uganda. It is relatively easy, safe and simple to travel around. It is landlocked, surrounded by Uganda to the north, Tanzania to the east, Burundi to the south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west.

Rwanda is not only the land of a thousand hills, but also a country rich in flora and fauna and stunning natural beauty in its scenic rolling and breathtaking green savannah. The country hosts some rare species of animals like the silverback mountain gorillas as well as unique birds and insects in the tropical forest of Nyungwe.

My name is  Marie-Chantal Niwenshuti. I am  Rwandese. I am currently pursuing a degree in psychology and pre-law at Utah Valley University and hope to become an attorney. I work at UVU`s prospective student office as a UVU Student Ambassador,  assisting with student recruitment. I also serves as a UVU inclusive and diversity event leader. Other duties include giving campus tours, visiting high schools, and attending student events. This gives me the privilege to meet and serve people from all walks of life. I am also part of the Foreign Affairs Club at UVU — an organization that builds leadership skills and makes connections with foreign diplomats through the Office of  Global Intercultural Engagement at UVU by co-hosting dignitaries. This opportunity empowers me with the knowledge of the world and helps me acquire or discover better ways to serve the world. I also serves with the United Africans of Utah (UAU), a Utah organization that helps unite local refugee communities. As a UAU youth advocate, I help refugee youths learn to negavate the American school system by planning workshops such as college application day, Fafsa day, College readiness and Career day.  This opportunity helps me appreciate my hard work and rejoice in the success of those I serve. Hobbies include hiking, biking, reading, and spending time with family.
